PurPOSE: The Position You’re Standing In
Purpose gets dressed up a lot.
We talk about it like it’s a destination… a title… a grand reveal.
But what if purpose is quieter than that?
More embodied.
More positional.
Have you ever thought about the pose you’re standing in with intention?
Not purpose as a goal—but purpose as a stance.
Pose.
Two definitions stopped me in my tracks:
1. To assume a particular attitude or position in order to be photographed, painted, or drawn.
2. A way of behaving adopted to give others a false impression.
That second one?
Whew. That one made me pause.
Because if we’re honest… most of us know how to pose.
We know how to shift our weight just right.
Angle our face.
Soften the flaws.
Approve the image before it’s allowed to exist.
I hate candid photos.
Not because I don’t like memories—but because I like control.
I want to review the moment before it’s shared.
I want to decide if it’s worthy of being seen.
And if I’m really being real?
That’s not about the picture.
That’s about me.
Because somewhere along the way, a lot of us learned that being seen as-is is risky.
That perfection is safer than presence.
That if we don’t curate the image, someone might notice what’s underneath.
I remember finding a photo of myself from one of my darkest seasons.
I couldn’t look away—not because of how I looked…
…but because of my eyes.
Empty.
Tired.
Gone.
I felt compassion for her.
That version of me was surviving, not living.
And in that moment I realized something heavy:
I never wanted anyone to see me in pictures of me.
We pose for photos the same way we pose for life.
We get in formation.
We straighten up.
We perform “I’m good.”
And sure—the purpose of a photo is to capture a moment.
But what about the moments in life where the purPOSEis far from intentional?
What about the seasons where you weren’t camera-ready…
where you were reacting, coping, bracing…
where life snapped the picture without your permission?
Those moments still happened.
They still count.
They’re still part of your story.
Here’s the twist:
Purpose doesn’t always show up polished.
Sometimes purpose is found in the unposed moments.
The ones where you weren’t trying to impress.
The ones where you weren’t hiding well.
The ones where your guard slipped and truth leaked out.
Maybe purpose isn’t asking you to perfect the pose.
Maybe it’s asking you to drop it.
To stop standing in positions meant to protect perception
and start standing in positions rooted in truth.
Because the real work isn’t being picturesque.
It’s being present.
And maybe—just maybe—
purpose isn’t about how you’re seen…
…it’s about where you’re finally willing to stand.
There’s purpose in your plan and peace in your presence
